Red Hook, NY
Gateway Blossom:a study on movement was a site-specific piece of public art, installed in the Village of Red Hook’s Memorial Park. The installation was part of the Apple Blossom Day Celebrations organized by the Red Hook Rotary Club.
Over 500 white balloons were fastened to colored strings that hovered ten feet above the ground. The overwhelming repetition of forms and the mesmerizing movement of the string and balloons, resulting from the breeze, created a piece of work in motion that activated and transformed this under-utilized park. The playful nature of the colorful string and the innate essence of the balloons resulted in a piece of interactive art that was approachable and enjoyable for all. Gateway Blossom existed in unison with the blossoming colors of spring and highlighted the beauty of this historic park.
